Write the list the night before
Costly omissions are never the camera. They are the mount adapter, the card in the right format, the second battery for the boom, the safety wire for the fixture rigged overhead. A list written the evening before and read aloud with someone else removes almost all of them. It is what we do on our side before every collection.
Plan for the failure rather than hope against it
Over a week of shooting something will give up: a tired battery, a crackling cable, a temperamental card. The crews that cope are not the ones with the newest equipment, they are the ones who hired a spare on the critical items and have a number to call. A second recorder costs forty euros a day. Rescheduling a shooting day costs a thousand.
